Works fine now. Click there and you'll get an options screen. Now you can swipe to delete ( or mark to delete) and messages won't come back to your inbox and message CAN'T ....... According to what I've read Hotmail accounts are one of the few not being fixed! Then I found something that worked for me, instead of swiping to delete, or selecting then tapping delete, I found that selecting then tapping 'move message' to 'Trash' did the trick I am most grateful for the help.
